East Sussex County Councils website for young people.

Project delivery

c360 is the East Sussex County Council website for young people. It aims to give you advice and information on everything, from how to choose your options when leaving school to where to get contraception. Information on the website is written by experts from different teams at the Council.

As a County Council project BarkWeb were required to demonstrate multiple business processes, security tests, insurance and indemnity levels to qualify for involvement in the tendering process. There was also a requirement for a stringent design process that included East Sussex County Council and the East Sussex Youth Cabinet focus groups to steer the design evolution in the early stages.

Web design (graphics) was treated as separate to application (code) and due to the high level of flexibility within the BarkWeb CMS system we were able to quickly tailor the front end build the site from the final design as approved by the design board.

Due to the size of the project, iterations were carefully planned and scheduled to a timescale that allowed for degree of flexibility.

Iterations involved various stakeholders at various points, so project management was a key part of keeping this project moving forward. The Council is a large public body with several offices in Eastbourne and a head office in Lewes. It was important to maintain good communication between all involved departments.

Build involved a large 20k page content scrape and audit from the expired connexions360 website and was subject to multiple assessments to ensure quality. We also custom integrated with events databases for the 'What's on your doorstep' search application on the site.

Sign off involved further security checks and risk assessments prior to live.

What this project demonstrates is our ability to meet stringent public sector approval process and work to a tight brief to deliver a highly bespoke, high quality project that fitted the requirement brief perfectly.

What the East Sussex youth cabinet said.

"Really inspiring, shows how we can give young people the tools to make their life better by using technology and it felt amazing to be part of it!"

"It's been fantastic to have such direct impact on the website - actually speaking with designers and seeing the pages throughout has meant I've been really involved; I can't wait for the launch of the site and to see so many more young people using it than before"

"Being involved with the redevelopment of c360 was great fun. It was really interesting to see the website develop from the ground up and how we could include loads of different views to shape what the site looked like in the end. I hope that more and more people will start using this valuable resource now it's so much easier to see all the information in such a user friendly way!"
