The geeks here at BarkWeb Towers like awesome new tech, apps and code that do new and wonderful things and leave you in awe.

One recent app we downloaded after spotting it on a website did just that this week. Initially we thought it was some kind of hoax, it was that impressive. See the YouTube video at the bottom of this page for their demonstration.

Word Lens, by a company called Quest Visual in California, is an app that uses the camera on your phone to translate signs into your native language. Now this app is currently still in demo version, but is still pretty impressive and has a number of languages it converts to and detects, from English, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Italian and Portuguese (at the time of writing).

What's a nice feature, is that once you have downloaded the language pack for your chosen conversion, it doesn't need a network connection. So there'll be no fear of running up a high mobile data usage bill while using it abroad.

Such an impressive app hasn't gone unnoticed. Google have already purchased Quest Visual to add to their current translating apps, and currently the app and language packs are free. But once the transition to Google is complete, there'll no doubt be a charge. So hurry up and download it now.

The app is available in both the Google Android App Store, and the Apple iTunes store, and even appears available for Google Glass, which we don't have so cant test or validate.

And we clearly aren't alone in our opinion, or the first in discovering this app, as it's already made the news, even if it is on the Daily Mail......
